Eli Lilly has had a tradition of philanthropy and community service throughout its 127-year history. Eli Lilly donates medical relief to people in more than 65 countries each year for both emergencies and ongoing programs, and contributes financial assistance through numerous organizations to improve public health around the globe. In the past several years, the company and the Eli Lilly Foundation have provided over $100 million in product donations and cash grants to numerous developing countries.
In China, Lilly contributed $800,000 to fund a partnership with Project HOPE (in the
China Diabetes Project) that creates sustainable diabetes prevention and control programs
throughout the country.
In South Africa, Lilly funded the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology to increase public
education programs on diabetes and build a primary care clinic in 2002.
