IFPMA IVS task force members have committed significant resources to the development of vaccines to combat a potential influenza pandemic, despite uncertain financial returns. As part of this development process, IVS members undertake a series of clinical trials to establish each vaccine's safety profile and potential to protect. To date manufacturers have conducted a substantial number of clinical studies, and a number are still ongoing.

Periodically IVS publishes collated information of the studies conducted by its members, to provide stakeholders with an overview of the status of clinical trials in the field.
