Position

The Internet has become a vital and positive resource for society in many respects, not least in the area of healthcare. It continues to evolve and, together with other new technologies, should be fully utilised to inform and educate global audiences on a wide range of subjects including medicinal products.

The research based pharmaceutical industry strongly supports and encourages the appropriate use of the Internet and related technologies to provide accurate and scientifically reliable information on health care and medicines, as well as providing information in a responsible manner, for the benefit of patients, healthcare professionals and all who have an interest in human health and the proper use of medicines.

The Internet and Pharmaceutical Information: IFPMA continues its dialogue with international partners, especially WIPO and WHO, concerning how pharmaceutical information can be distributed responsibly and appropriately via the Internet. For more information regarding IFPMA's conditions for membership surrounding the Internet, refer to the conditions for Use of the Internet in the IFPMA Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices.
