WHO IGM on virus & vaccine access
As a major contributor to the preparations against pandemic influenza, the vaccine industry is committed to taking a full partnership role in the ongoing WHO Intergovernmental Meeting (IGM) process that is focusing on the sharing of influenza viruses and access to vaccines and other benefits. To assist the policy makers and Member States involved in this process, the IFPMA IVS task force has produced a ‘library’ of papers to provide background on the many different factors that should be considered when establishing policy in this area.
These background papers provide important insights into the unique characteristics of vaccine R&D, production and the marketplace, as well as outlining the significant contributions the vaccine industry makes to pandemic preparedness around the world. Many of these papers are designed to provide a factual reference point to stimulate further debate rather than present simplistic policy solutions, while others go further in outlining the IFPMA influenza task force’s position on key areas of policy.
The IFPMA IVS task force remains fully committed to participating in wider policy debate, as well as the ongoing WHO IGM process, as part of industry’s mission to protect society across the world against the threat of influenza. For further information on pre-pandemic and pandemic vaccines, IFPMA IVS members’ contributions to the fight against influenza or any other aspect relating to the task force’s role in the WHO IGM process please contact the secretariat directly.
