Improving Global Health
The research-based pharmaceutical industry makes a major and direct contribution to improving global health through its core activity: developing innovative medicines, vaccines and biotechnology products. The industry also works to improve health in poor developing countries through a wide range of partnerships to improve access to medicines, build health care capacity and perform R&D for neglected diseases. In addition, the industry’s commitment to corporate good governance also contributes to improved health care. The industry’s focus and actions in this area are set out in an IFPMA paper “Principal Focus and Actions of the Research-Based Pharmaceutical Industry in Contributing to Global Health”:
