This infographic shows how just a 1% increase in seasonal influenza vaccination coverage can deliver substantial health and economic benefits.

It highlights influenza’s global disease burden, including deaths, hospitalizations, pressure on health services, and lost productivity, and it estimates that every 1% rise in global influenza vaccination coverage could prevent more than 18,000 hospitalizations worldwide every year, with direct medical savings across all settings.

The value of greater influenza vaccination extends well beyond hospitalization costs alone. It helps maintain health system capacity, supports healthy ageing, protects vulnerable people, preserves workforce productivity, reduces unnecessary antibiotic use, and strengthens preparedness for severe influenza seasons and future respiratory threats. Across high- and middle-income settings, influenza vaccination can generate up to USD 22 in societal benefits for every USD 1 invested.

IFPMA and its members call on policymakers to make vaccination more accessible, integrate it into chronic-disease and healthy-aging care, support healthcare providers, and strengthen public communication to protect vulnerable groups and improve health-system resilience.
