As Executive Director of Global Health, Access, and Financing, Derrick leads IFPMA’s policy and approach to global access to medicines, health financing and health systems.
In his previous role as Managing Director of Vaccine Markets and Global Health Security at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Derrick led its vaccine portfolio strategy to shape sustainable markets and supply, and established Gavi’s global health security function. He also headed the COVAX Facility, overseeing the supply and delivery of nearly 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines to 146 countries during the pandemic, coordinating with the vaccines industry, governments, and multilateral partners.
Prior to Gavi, Derrick was Global Vice President at GSK, where he led global and regional businesses for over a decade, including the commercialization and launches of rotavirus, HPV, and influenza vaccines, as well as strategic lifecycle investments and technology transfer of several vaccines and medicines across markets in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. He led government, regulatory, and market access engagements across diverse healthcare environments, headed GSK’s regional response to the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, and subsequently represented GSK and IFPMA at WHO’s Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework.
Derrick serves on the Board of the World Mosquito Program. He holds a medical degree from Monash University, an MBA from Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne, and is an alumnus of Cambridge University’s Board Director Programme.
