On 25 August 2026, IFPMA delivered a statement on united action for Vision 2035 during the 76th WHO Regional Committee for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

IFPMA welcomes the Vision 2035 strategy, including its emphasis on accelerating UHC, health systems resilience, digital transformation, health workforce and leadership transformation, and institutional modernization.

Geographical diversification of manufacturing can improve access only in markets where reliable, long-term demand, effective delivery- and production infrastructure, and coherent policy frameworks provide the conditions for sustainability. This includes strong regulation, intellectual property protection, open trade, legal certainty, skilled workforces, and resilient supply chains. Technology transfer is most successful and should always be voluntary and on mutually agreed terms.

Pooled procurement should be targeted to settings with limited local procurement capacity and clear unmet needs. It must remain voluntary and non-discriminatory, preserve multi-supplier competition, recognize value beyond price, refrain from winner-takes-all models, and protect physician choice, patient safety, and continuity of care.

IFPMA stands ready to work with WHO, Member States, and partners to support implementation of this important strategy and its flagship initiatives within effective framework conditions.

Also, as we mark 100 days of the current Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak, it is a stark reminder that health security depends on our ability to act quickly, collectively. Within a matter of weeks, pharmaceutical companies mobilized alongside governments, Africa CDC, WHO, CEPI, Gavi, and other partners to develop new vaccines and therapeutics and explore cross-protection from existing ones for the current Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak. This rapid response demonstrates the value of years of prior investment in science, platform technologies, partnerships, and preparedness.

IFPMA, its member companies, and its broader life sciences partners remain committed to working with Africa CDC and other partners in the ongoing response, while also helping strengthen preparedness for future health threats.
