Adoption of the Political Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR)
On the occasion of the adoption of the Political Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, Dr. David Reddy, Director General, IFPMA, said:
“The global pharmaceutical industry urges governments to seize the opportunity of the Political Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR), and accelerate practical commitments that strengthen preparedness for future health crises.
“Medicines and vaccines will remain a cornerstone of pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. As governments put the Political Declaration into practice, they should ensure intellectual property frameworks that enable the development of life-saving products and foster voluntary partnerships remain stable, predictable and robust. We also call on governments to adopt policies that strengthen the systems needed to deliver medicines and vaccines rapidly. Preparedness does not begin when a crisis hits. It is built through the choices countries make every day to value innovation and invest in resilient health systems.
“The pharmaceutical industry remains committed to partnering with governments, research institutions, international organizations, and civil society to strengthen preparedness and build a safer, more resilient world for all.”
