Global disease surveillance and pathogen sharing

Following on the heels of COVID-19, global rules on pandemic preparedness and response are being overhauled.

Negotiations on a Global Pandemic Accord will kick off in February 2023, and the International Health Regulations (IHR) on responding to global public health emergencies are being revised.

Against that background, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) requested that Covington carry out an independent research project with the following scope: to map out the current practices, rules, and actors in global disease surveillance and pathogen sharing, for both physical samples and sequence data.

The research was carried out between April and November 2022, collecting input from global health experts.

The findings are presented in a series of four reports, publicly available on the Covington website. Click ‘Download the reports’ and fill out the form to receive the reports via email.
