Trade and Health Agenda: A Meaningful World Trade Organization Roadmap to Strengthen Global Health

Ahead of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14), trade associations representing the global biopharmaceutical industry provide a perspective on how WTO Members can follow a roadmap to strengthen global health through meaningful trade policies.

This proposal builds on work that already is underway or has been proposed at the WTO and by its Members. In particular, the global biopharmaceutical industry encourages WTO Members to prioritize the following objectives:

  • Strengthen the innovation ecosystem and protect intellectual property (IP) rights
  • Eliminate tariffs and limit export restrictions
  • Strengthen supply chains and improve trade facilitation
  • Enhance quality and effectiveness of regulatory policies and procedures.

This roadmap has also been supported by other global associations.
