From protection to prevention: The power of immunization for people living with non-communicable diseases

By IFPMA, The Health Policy Partnership

The policy report From protection to prevention: The power of immunization for people living with non-communicable diseases has been commissioned to The Health Policy Partnership (HPP) by IFPMA.

This report outlines how policy- and decision-makers can ensure that all people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) receive the immunizations they need to live long and healthy lives.

The report explores the intersection between four major NCDs – cancer, cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic respiratory disease (CRD), and diabetes – and four key vaccine-preventable respiratory infections – COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcal disease, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The report is accompanied by four summary infographics.

Delivering immunization programs that reach all people living with NCDs requires policy action across four domains:

  1. Enable innovation
  2. Mobilize investment
  3. Drive implementation
  4. Ensure accountability

These domains were identified in IFPMA’s 2025 call to action on NCDs and mental health, From innovation to access: Pharmaceutical industry priorities ahead of the 4th UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health.
