IFPMA and Save the Children organized an action-focus one day conference titled ‘Access to Medicine – from Ranking to Action; scaling up good practice’ on 23rd January 2017, timed to coincide with the World Health Organization Executive Board meeting and following the recent publication of the 2016 Access to Medicine Index Report.
Throughout the morning plenary sessions participants heard some good practice case studies from biopharmaceutical companies and organizations working in the health space, focusing on the success factors, enablers, and approaches companies may employ to improve access to medicine and determining the common themes and components needed to achieve these. The first panel focused on affordability and availability, the second panel on health systems strengthening, and the third panel on collaborative R&D. During the afternoon breakout sessions smaller groups picked up some of the main discussion points of the morning to identify some gaps and opportunities where action could be taken. A full report of the event will be shared shortly.
